Alvin Tan、Melvin Chee、Jackson Tan とWilliam Chanの4人のシンガポール人アーティスト/デザイナーは1994年にシンガポールを拠点とするクリエイティブ・コレクティブphunk studioを結成した。彼らは、UKのCreative Review誌に「シンガポールグラフィック界のチャンピオン」と称され、アジアで今最もエキサイティングなコンテンポラリーアート＆デザイン集団のひとつだ。彼らは実に多様なリソースを全く違和感なくブレンドし、革新的なビジュアル・スタイルを確立している。トラディショナルな中国のクラフトやフォークロア、香港版パルプフィクションや日本の漫画・オタクサブカルチャー、欧米のポップカルチャーやアート＆デザインのムーブメントまでも取り込み、彼らのマルチカルチャーなアイデンティティー、バックグラウンドとその生活を反映する、ユニークでクリエイティブなコンセプトにまとめ上げている。そんな彼らの手がけるプロジェクトは、アート、デザイン、出版、ファッション、音楽、フィルム、インタラクティブと、幅広い。Phunkは、Nike、MTV、Levis、TigerBeer、Salem等、数々のインターナショナルブランドとのコラボレーションを手掛けている。2007年には、シンガポールで最も権威のあるPresident’s Design Awardで「Designer of the Year」に選ばれた。

Alvin Tan, Melvin Chee, Jackson Tan and William Chan are 4 Singaporean artists / designers who came together in 1994 to form :phunk studio, a creative collective based in Singapore. Described as “The Champion of Singapore's Graphic Scene” (Creative Review, UK), Phunk is one of Asia’s most exciting contemporary art and design collectives. They have propagated a visual signature that seamlessly blends and reinterprets their diverse influences such as traditional Chinese craft and folklore, Hong Kong pulp fiction, Japanese manga & otaku subculture, Western popular culture, art & design movements into a singular creative thought that reflects their multi-cultural identity, background and environment. Phunk’s projects span across art, design, publishing, fashion, music, film and interactive and they have worked with international brands such as Nike, MTV, Levis, Tiger Beer and Salem. They were awarded “Designer of the Year” in 2007, the highest accolade for designers in Singapore.
