GraceTanは新しいデザインの発見のために2003年にデザインスタジオkwodrentを設立。以来、ファッション、ファインアート、建築の境界線を越え、それぞれを融合するかのような挑戦的なシリーズ作品を世に送り出している。
kwodrentのシリーズは、長方形のスタディーに基づき、建築マテリアルと手法に学んだ、先端的で実証的な作品群。すべての作品ひとつひとつに、開発された順にシリアルナンバーと日付が割り振られている。これらの作品は、直感的なアプローチと同時に、前もって作られた見本のない状態で、実際に手を使った触感に基づいて作るアプローチの、２つの軸を行き来する制作プロセスを経て作られている。kwodrentの基盤になっているのは、このようなmakingとthinking、抽象的なものとphysicalなもの、そしてアナログとデジタルに見られる相互関係、共存関係に焦点を当てたコンセプトだ。

In 2003, Grace Tan set up kwodrent as a personal journey to explore design in a new light. Since then, the multi-disciplinary practice has emerged as a critically rigorous series of works that blur the lines between fashion, fine art and architecture.
The kwodrent series is a progressive and empirical body of works based on the study of rectangles, referenced to materials and construction methods. Each piece of work is numbered and dated to form a chronological record of its development. The series is defined and shaped by the pivotal working process, an intuitive and tactile approach derived from working hands-on with the medium. A fundamental aspect of kwodrent is the focus on the interdependency and inherent relationship between making and thinking, physical and abstract, as well as, analogous and digital.
Grace is currently based in Singapore.
