Ukiyo-e Demonstrations & Workshops

Demonstrations and workshops by the Adachi Institute of Woodcut Prints who continue the Edo-period techniques of woodcut printing. Visitors can watch up-close how a master builds up layers of each color onto the Ukiyo-e using using skills and the vividness of a freshly painted the prints. In the workshop, visitors will experience printing on the woodblock by using tools and stands that used by craftsmen as well as feeling the texture of Washi paper by touching it. It allows visitors to visualise how the people in the Edo period enjoyed Ukiyo-e.

Workshop “Playing with Sound” by Yuri Suzuki

Yuri Suzuki is a world-renowned sound artist who has dyslexia. He makes a lot of humorous products which themes is relationship between human and sounds.
In this workshop, the aim is to make original sounds by using a synthesizer called “OTOTO”, as well as using his work “Look Like Music”.
“Look Like Music”
Designed for those with dyslexia, it creates music not with musical notes but through color and composition.A white miniature car detects and follows a black line while reading crossing colored lines and translating this data into music. This work is a participatory art installation first introduced at the Mudam Luxembourg.
“OTOTO”
OTOTO is a synthesizer which can turn items which electricity can flow through into a musical instrument. Perform using a vegetable and fruits keyboard or make your own instrument easily with paper and cardboard. This all-in-one musical invention kit which is now on sale is being introduced for the first time in Japan.
Objective: As CCC is educational institute, the aim is to encourage disorder children to feel a joy of self-expression via creation of art, moreover, to provide an opportunity for audience to perceive new possibility of the attractiveness of the art and design.

A talk and a workshop with the contemporary product designer who utilizes the Japanese traditional technic. This program is themed "Connect Japanese culture with 'Now' ", and is structured to suggest a hint for creating new things but still following a good old Japanese tradition. Mainly as activities aimed at people overseas. We first started the project at V&A, London in 2011, since then we have been working with craftsmen, artists and designers who carry on traditional technic to express at the present day such as Ukiyo-e (Edo period), Hariko (Papier-mache), ceramic, Japanese lacquer and dyeing. Moreover, the project is aimed to raise interests of design and products that meet the individual's lifestyle and to raise awareness of Japanese crafts culture in South Asia where the need of inheritance of traditional skills is increasing.
The contents of completion:
A new attempt to introduce the fusion of traditional crafts and contemporary design, the fusion of art and design.This workshop is designed to learn, experience the advanced design and sensibility using the best technic.
Target:
Designers or students who are fascinated by the traditional crafts, and want to make use of their own idea and design to work.

Kids Animation Workshop “Strange Animal Park”

Back again this summer break season, the 7th CCC Kids Animation Workshop fosters the joy of animation-making and challenges childrens' creative skills with everyday items and a digital camera. This session children will use items from nature to produce their own strange animal park animation. All participating children will receive a DVD of their animation work and the finished animation will be shown at CCC and Shizuoka City Nihondaira Zoo.

On August 1st & 2nd, the 7th CCC Kids Animation Workshop was held for 1st & 2nd year elementary students. Based on the theme of "Strange animal Park", students collected plants from from the CCC area, and using digital cameras created stop-motion animation.
