“IKEBANA performance and a workshop” by Eikou Sumura (Related event “LIFE”)
ICN proudly presents, Eikou Sumura, who is a practitioner of Japanese flower arrangement under the Sougetsu-ryu , which brought Japanese traditional culture into the level of art, will have her first solo exhibition in UK, followed by an IKEBANA performance and a workshop.
Sougetsu-ryu is known to be one of the three main Japanese schools of flower arrangement, and is the most popular school in Europe. Since 1991, as the ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eikou has been active both nationally and internationally in the popularization and development movement of the “IKEBANA”. The concept is “ IKEBANA that speaks for itself”. This is an interaction with your inner voice, through the flower as a medium. When a flower is planted, one must make several judgments. To scrape off excess material is the process of facing your personal values and aesthetics, as well as your instinctive senses. The theme of this exhibition is “LIFE~REBIRTH”, and expressing how plants and nature interact with people.
