Mai Miyake “Dead Angle”
Portfolio
ICN gallery is proud to presents "Dead Angle" by artist Mai Miyake who has been chosen as one of the 10 female artists who are active in the Japanese contemporary art world. This is her first solo exhibition in the UK. What is remarkable of her work is the use of Classic literature formats and stories, expressing Japanese traditional aesthetics in the modern sense by reconstructing them cynically and humorously,
The theme behind the exhibition is "Dead Angle", which has been Miyake`s long-term exploration. It will feature approximately 20 pieces including Hanikamu Series that has the message that depending on the perspective or the way things are perceived, it will reflect a different world, a new Ukiyo-e that was made possible by the collaboration with Adachi Traditional Block-Print Technology Preservation Foundation, as well as other installations. We hope that the audience in UK will enjoy the latest expression in Japanese contemporary art that is rooted in Japanese traditional aesthetics.

Eikou Sumura “LIFE”
Portfolio
ICN Gallery proudly presents, Eikou Sumura, who is a practitioner of Japanese flower arrangement under the Sougetsu-ryu , which brought Japanese traditional culture into the level of art, will have her first solo exhibition in UK, followed by an IKEBANA performance and a workshop.
Sougetsu-ryu is known to be one of the three main Japanese schools of flower arrangement, and is the most popular school in Europe. Since 1991, as the ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eikou has been active both nationally and internationally in the popularization and development movement of the “IKEBANA”. The concept is “ IKEBANA that speaks for itself”. This is an interaction with your inner voice, through the flower as a medium. When a flower is planted, one must make several judgments. To scrape off excess material is the process of facing your personal values and aesthetics, as well as your instinctive senses. The theme of this exhibition is “LIFE~REBIRTH”, and expressing how plants and nature interact with people.

“Switch – Design of Play” by Kouichi Okamoto
Portfolio
The first solo art exhibition by CCC resident Kouichi Okamoto (kyouei design), "switch" was held at POLA MUSEUM ANNEX (Ginza, 2012 April 27 to June 3) curated by Hexaproject. CCC will exhibit his "musical table" work from this exhibition. This latest work of Okamoto's is made up of 504 of musical boxes which play delicate sounds in reaction to visitor movement. Music was the trigger for his creative career which then developed into product design as kyouei design. In this sense "musical table" has special meaning to Okamoto. Afterwards, this exhibit will be shown at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London in September curated by Hexaproject. Don't miss this chance to see a work which is gaining international attention.

Lya Nagado “Still Life”
Portfolio
ICN is proud to present a series of intimate portraits by artist Lya Nagado that stand out for their wittingly simple composition. The sense of emptiness evokes that of American Modernists, but does not prevent the inanimate subjects to beimprinted with meaning, and ultimately, with life. This group of works evokes the condition of being human in its timeless bareness. A suspended sense of melancholy can be felt throughout Nagado's works. The historical materials and traditional techniques are inspired by the early Flemish painters. In quiet colours and through the slow construction of multiple layers, the artist reflects on the theme of her own Japanese heritage through an outsider's prism.
