Portfolio
The first solo art exhibition by Kouichi Okamoto (kyouei design), "switch" was held at POLA MUSEUM ANNEX curated by Hexaproject.
Kouichi Okamoto has received international acclaim as a designer who reaches across the fields of art, music and design with an imagination overflowing with playfulness. Along with his new works, this exhibition will show past works which have become synonymous with Okamoto including his "composition chair", made with hand-woven aluminum wire which took six months to complete, and his "reconstruction chandelier", which uses construction clip lights as a chandelier. His new work "musical table" connects 500 music boxes to a table filled with electric controls which react to the movements of visitors creating random sounds. This unique work by Okamoto fuels one's imagination and brings a new discovery into our everyday life. part1 “What is Ukiyo-e?” Japan Masters: Hokusai, Kuniyoshi, Hiroshige, Sharaku, Utamaro
Portfolio
ICN Gallery proudly presents to you a series of exhibitions that centres on the theme of ukiyo-e. This exhibition, which is the first in the series, serves as an introduction to ukiyo-e that will hopefully enable visitors to better understand its historical origins and influence on Japanese art.
The word "Ukiyo"(fleeting life) means "modern-style". Ukiyo-e is the most popular print describing people's everyday life and every things which became popular in the Edo. The bold compositions and vibrant colours attracted European painters such as van Gogh and Monet, hence an unprecedented boom of Japonism. This exhibition features brilliantly coloured woodblock paintings executed in a particular technique known as nishiki-e, the latter of which is commonly administered in ukiyo-e works. The pieces showcased here are also accompanied by interpretations that advise the viewer on how best to comprehend and appreciate the charm of ukiyo-e. We highly recommend this exhibition for not only people those who're already interested in Japanese culture, but also those who have never seen Ukiyo-e before.
A total of 60 works are being exhibited, all of which are for sale. These pieces were created by different Edo-period artists such as Hokusai and Kuniyoshi who were interested in a variety of subject matter, ranging from themes of beauties, kabuki, samurai, landscapes and caricature. We sincerely hope that you will be satisfied with the characteristic and charm of Ukiyo-e woodblock prints such as its novelty, originality, the beauty of omission, and clear coloring.

Keiko Masumoto “Kitsch Kogei”
Portfolio
For a long time in Japanese applied arts, the ideas towards "art" and "craft" have been kept separate. However there are some artists who break the mold, and ICN Gallery is pleased to present one of them, Keiko Masumoto. Using high ceramic craftsmanship, her works include everyday Japanese items such as decorative plates, vases, and tea ceremony instruments. But she breaks the relationship between utilitarian and decorative objects by combining these items and traditional motifs with dynamic shapes, creating a humorous take on Japanese traditions and culture. A new generation artist seeking to escape outdated conventions, Masumoto erases the lines between craft and art by showcasing the beauty of useful things.

Riusuke Fukahori “Gpldfish Salvation”
Portfolio
Artist Riusuke Fukahori's London debut exhibition "Goldfish Salvation" transforms ICN into the world of goldfish. When struggling with artistic vision, Fukahori's pet goldfish became his inspiration and ever since his passion and lifelong theme. His unique style of painting uses acrylic on clear resin which is poured into containers, resulting in a three-dimensional appearance and lifelike vitality.
Over the years the goldfish breeding business has reached an extreme, perfecting goldfish in a variety of colors and shapes, they are admired as beautiful objects like 'living sculptures'. Fukahori's brush strokes capturing the liveliness, delicacy and dynamics of the goldfish and his sculpture works create an illusion by using resin to captive the painted surfaces creating a truly 'living sculpture'.
This exhibition features twenty new painting works by this leading Japanese contemporary artist.
