Lya Nagado
b.1972, Sao Paulo, Brazil
Lya Nagado formerly explored her creative talents in the fields of pop culture and street art — as part of the Tortoy project — producing toy designs and illustration works featured internationally, including Comic-Con(USA), IDN (Hong Kong) and Shift (Japan) magazines.
During the last decade, Nagado’s interest in anthropomorphic portraiture grew and she shifted swiftly into drawing and painting. Training at the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts under the tutelage of Dr. David Cranswick led to her current practice mixing contemporary imagery with ancient processes, and in 2011 she was awarded an MA degree in Fine Arts with distinction from the City and Guilds of London Art School.
Based in London, Nagado has been showing regularly in the UK and Europe and was selected for the 2011 New English Art Club Annual Exhibition and shortlisted for the BP Portrait Exhibition in 2012.
