EDO⇄TOKYO 100
It is said that Utagawa Hiroshige began to work on scenery art in the 1830s, around three years
prior to the publication of the “Fiy-ree Stations of the Tokaido” series. e work that was
depicted around this time was “Famous Places in the Eastern Capital”, which depicted sights of
his hometown, Edo. Approximately 25 years later, Hiroshige attempted at “One Hundred
Famous Views of Edo”, the piece that is to highlight his later years. Within the 120 pieces of this
epic series (including the table of contents and some works by Hiroshige II), there are pieces
that have inspired European Impressionists including Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet,
as well as many people both nationally and internationally.

works that depict the scenery of “Edo”. Ten years aer “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo”
was published, “Edo” became known as “Tokyo”; please enjoy the many scenes of “Edo” that
Hiroshige had le behind for our generation.

160 years later and is an homage to Hiroshige’s “One Hundred Famous Views of Edo”. Discover
